Just
like we all design to accommodate the sheet fed litho, web offset
or screen printing processes, there are certain rules and guidelines
to follow to achieve the best results from a digital press.
Try
to avoid dark tints in large, flat areas as the digital process
will create a banding effect. Technology is improving constantly
in this area, however, and it won't be too long before this issue
is resolved.
If
you have a large area of solid or tint, you can break it up with
text or a texture.
Try
not to print over a crease or fold as the ink may crack (digital
ink is solvent based liquid and rather than absorbing into the substrate,
it sits on top).
Remember
to think in 4 colour process, not spot colour. Make best use of
4 colour.
Register
in digital print is much better than other processes. Detailed photographic
images will appear more vibrant and sharper. Text will reproduce
in colour at smaller sizes.
Take advantage of these qualities.
